Rachel Clancy
Rachel Clancy is a figurative painter, concerned with ideas surrounding illusion, trickery and magic. Rachel's interested in how her artifice with paint could mimic the sleight of hand nature of a magic trick. Through using a technical, layered process of painting, she's interested in how a surface of paint acts as an illusion to the viewer as she incorporate's mundane, everyday objects in her paintings, distorting their context and emphasising them in compositions. Colour and lighting are also important in her practice, as she use's glazes of oil paint to enhance depth and luminosity in my works. The scenes in Rachel's works are often cropped, and explore the presence and non-presence of a figure through explorations of domestic spaces.
