RYCA (Ryan Callanan)

Ryan’s work originally rose to fame through his involvement with the street art scene under the pseudonym RYCA. Over the years, however, he has developed an ever-increasing presence and reputation creating prints and graphics under his name. Through combining words and images from popular culture, with the materials and techniques traditionally associated with pub signs, he creates nostalgic, playful images that are both accessible and highly technically accomplished.

Ryan aka 'RYCA' has developed a unique combination of Street Art, popular culture and current affairs to create a self-proclaimed ‘Poptarian’ style. We love the playful jokes and political references used in each of their visual equation, which never fails to create accessible and refreshing artwork. It may come as a surprise to hear that it was only after the production of their first 3D smiley faces, emblematic of the 1980s Acid Rave culture, that the moniker ‘RYCA’ was born. RYCA is now well known for infusing new and old into the production of their artwork by experimenting with industrial processes and CNC engineering. 

RYCA has been exhibited widely. Alongside a range of shows in the UK, past exhibitions include a solo show at the Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami, and later in Los Angeles, and a series of iconic Street Art pieces shown in Japan and Barcelona.
