Alan Yaffe is a man with a vision. As a dispensing optician for over 30 years, his entire career was devoted to helping people see clearly. And although he established a successful business and found his work rewarding, Alan always knew it wasn’t his destiny. His harboured desire was to create works of art for people to look at – abstract art. In 2014 Alan decided to sell his ophthalmic practice and launch himself into a new career as a professional artist. It was a brave and bold decision but, in his mid-fifties, he considered it was “now or never”!

Alan lives in Manchester and works from the comfort of his home studio. Just two years on, Alan’s mid-life career change has brought him unimagined success as an emerging self-taught artist – and he really didn’t see it all coming so quickly. Alan has been creating abstract art as a hobby for the last 15 years. He was initially inspired to put paint on the canvas after seeing some abstract work in a prominent Manchester gallery. He developed his style using high-quality acrylic paint on gallery-grade canvas, often combining the colour with different mediums to produce various effects and finishes.
