Banksy's Barcode is one-colour screen print depicting a leopard sauntering into the foreground of the composition, leaving behind a cage on wheels. The cage is actually a barcode symbol, and the bars of the cage are also the bars of the code. The bars are parted open in one area, leaving a gaping hole where we assume the leopard escaped. Barcode is an extremely clever that calls attention to the illegal trading of animals on the black market.

Barcode is an early and highly coveted stencil artwork created in 2004. He released the artwork for sale in an edition of 750, with 150 signed and 600 unsigned. Some prints include a red stamp in the lower left corner, while some do not. Banksy has used the image of the barcode in other works including the Barcode Shark and art for album covers.

The Barcode image itself is on the the earliest examples of Banksy's work. The Bristol-born artist stenciled it onto a wall outside of a house in hometown circa 1999 or 2000, before he joined the London scene. The street piece vanished in 2010 during extensive remodelling of the property, but re-emerged four years at a nearby grammar school where one of the teachers revealed that her husband had been one of the construction workers at the scene of the remodel. The teacher and her husband recognised that the stencil, which was to be demolished, was a Banksy. They received permission from the home owner to cut out the stencil then kept it hidden under their bed for four years, until they were ready to show it.

If you would like to sell your Banksy art, Barcode is an early and highly provocative image that doesn't come available often and is sought after by collectors. If you would like to buy Banksy's Barcode, it's a classic example of one of Banksy's smartest and most iconic images at an early juncture in his career. Your Framing Options

Box framing is provided with all our online framing, creating a distance between the glass and your artwork, so no risk of ink transfer to the pane. it's the perfect, gallery grade choice for limited edition prints or original artworks.

Shadow float mounting is an option at our website, to give the appearance of an artwork floating within the frame. The mount – an archival foam core – creates depth too, by casting a shadow beneath the artwork. We highly recommend using a float mount when framing artwork with deckled (hand-torn) edges.

As always, all our materials are sustainable and archival to keep your artwork in mint condition and perfectly presented. Simply choose from our white or black float framing options, before adding to basket.

Glazing all our framing orders are shipped with glass. We take great care with packaging to protect your artwork.

Alternatively, for added piece of mind, we've the option of gallery grade cast acrylic, offering superb clarity and protection.
