Limited edition of 600

50 x 70 cm | 19.68 x 27.55 in

Happy Choppers depicts a squadron of armed military helicopters with a cartoon-y pale pink bow adorning the top of the 'Chopper' (An American slang word for helicopter which became popular during the Korean War in 1950-53) in the foreground. The pink bow on the fighter aircraft mocking chauvinism.

The Happy Choppers screen print was created by the artist in 2003 with an edition of 750 prints. There are 600 unsigned prints and 150 signed prints. Additionally, there are 33 signed artist proofs. Banksy created the screen print for a Christmastime group of exhibition that he has several other artists put on in the early 2000s called Santa's Ghetto which aimed to draw attention to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Happy Chopper first appeared in 2002 as a street art piece in London at Whitecross Street Market. Since then, Banksy has revisited his helicopter motif many times, making Happy Choppers an iconic part of his repertoire. In 2002 and 2003, Banksy reproduced the image in a number of ways, from Limited edition screen prints to an original painting on paper to stencils on board and. even as a stenciled 'chopper' on top of a found landscape painting or two - paintings known as 'Crude Oil' paintings. Happy Choppers is such a sought-after artwork by Banksy that it has been reproduced into endless commercial versions. A unique aerosol stencil on board of Happy Choppers created by Banksy in 2002 sold at Julien's auction in April 2016 for $140,800 and £106,250 in Christies September 2020.

Your Framing Options

Box framing is provided with all our online framing, creating a distance between the glass and your artwork, so no risk of ink transfer to the pane. it's the perfect, gallery grade choice for limited edition prints or original artworks.

Shadow float mounting is an option at our website, to give the appearance of an artwork floating within the frame. The mount – an archival foam core – creates depth too, by casting a shadow beneath the artwork. We highly recommend using a float mount when framing artwork with deckled (hand-torn) edges.

As always, all our materials are sustainable and archival to keep your artwork in mint condition and perfectly presented. Simply choose from our white or black float framing options, before adding to basket.

Glazing all our framing orders are shipped with glass. We take great care with packaging to protect your artwork.

Alternatively, for added piece of mind, we've the option of gallery grade cast acrylic, offering superb clarity and protection.

If you would prefer acrylic or other options such as ornate frames or UV protection, please call our gallery team on +44 (0)7799 165062 for a quote, or message us at the bottom right of this page.
