Mondo Scripto, first exhibited at Halcyon Gallery in 2018, expanded that practice into a sustained and systematic project, as Dylan handwrote the lyrics to many of his best-loved songs and paired them with graphite drawings, weaving together decades of familiar songwriting with his personal artistic imagination. Dylan has returned to this format, injecting colour into several of his illustrations, extending Mondo Scripto’s dialogue between text and image into artworks altogether more immediate and instinctive.

Now, in a new collection of six hand-coloured illustrations, issued as a series of lithographic works, Dylan returns to some of his most celebrated and lyrically complex songs, revisiting them in colour, while working in the same vein as his Drawn Blank and Point Blank series. Dylan’s move into colour does much to advance his earlier graphite drawings, bringing new emotional registers, insights and layers to the songs, decades after their initial conception.
